Chest pain is not a sign or symptom of heart attack always.
Majority of people experienced chest pain which may be muscular in origin due to over stretching of muscle, blunt injury, indigestion, etc.
BUT IT IS NOT ONLY INCORRECT BUT DANGEROUS TO IGNORE AND NOT TO SEE THE DOCTOR.
First-Aid:
Keep the casualty in a comfortable position and reassure him.
shift to the near by hospital.
Heart Attack:
WHAT IS HEART ATTACK AND HOW IT OCCURS ?
Heart has 3 coronary arteries 2 from left side and one from the right side. These coronary arteries can get narrowed due to the deposition of cholesterol. The condition of deposition of cholesterol in the coronary artery is called as Atherosclerosis. Heart attack comes in first one minute and the person dies on the spot before medical help or may be hospitalized in serious condition this process of deposition of cholesterol starts in the early childhood.
Lack or total stoppage of blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscles due to the partial or total deposition of cholesterol into the coronary arteries resulting into the death of that particular muscles of the heart is called as Heart Attack.
Causes of Heart Attack.
It is divided into two groups
1) Modifiable
2) Un Modifiable
- MODIFIABLE
a) Obesity or over weight
b) High blood pressure
c) High cholesterol in diet and blood
d) Smoking
e) Diabetes Mellitus
f) No exercise
g) Stress and strain [mental worries]
2. UNMODIFIABLE:
a) Age : Heart Attack is most frequent in the age of 45 to 55 yrs but 35 to 50 years of age is also not very safe.
b) Sex : Males are more prone to get Heart Attack as compare to females.
c) Hereditary
If one parent is suffering from heart attack, the chances of having heart attack in their children becomes twice.
If both the parents have heart trouble, then the chances of getting heart attack increases four times.
Clinical signs and symptoms of heart attack:
1) Chest pain : The pain of heart attack is very severe and starts from the centre of the chest and radiates to left arm.
The pain may be of piercing type or heaviness in the chest. The pain sometimes radiates to left side of the jaw or the right arm. Pain lasts for about 15 to 30 minutes.
2) Breathlessness.
3) Sweating
5) Nausea or vomiting
6) Pain in the abdomen or sensation of fullness or gas in the chest.
7) Vertigo and dizziness.
8) Sometimes fall of blood pressure, weak pulse and there may be loss of consciousness.
FIRST-AID:
HEART ATTACK PATIENT IN CONSCIOUS STATE
Keep the patient in a back rest position [angle of 45 degree] with good ventilation.
Put tablet Sorbitrate 5 mg under his/her tongue in back rest or supine position only.
Tablet Ecosprin-150 to chew.
Raise his/her legs by 18-20 inches if possible.
Rush to the cardiologist as earliest.
HEART ATTACK PATIENT IN UNCONSCIOUS STATE
Keep the patient in a Supine position.
Check his/her respiration and carotids, if needed start CPR.
If Oxygen cylinder is available then start O2 immediately.
Put tablet Sorbitrate 5 mg under his/her tongue in supine position only.
Don’t feed water or any liquid in an unconscious state.
Rush to the cardiologist as earliest. |
