    Accidents & Injuries:

    ACCIDENT  is an unforeseen event causing injury or harm
    Annually  100,000 people are dying in India in road traffic accident..  
    RTA is a third killer in the list of deaths in India.
    In accident quickly  one should asses the vehicles involved and the number of casualties.
    Injuries to head, neck, chest and abdomen are very common in road traffic accident.

    Head injury: Signs of Serious Injury

    1. If victim is unconscious for more than 30 minutes.

    2. If there is bleeding from nose and ear or thin blood which is mixed with CSF or clear CSF is oozing out.
    3. convulsion.
    4. Persistent Vomiting.
    First-Aid:

    • keep the patient  at a safe place with good support to his/her neck and head.
    • Keep him/her in a supine position with head tilt and chin lift.
    • Take care of his/her airways [Clean the nose and mouth]
    • Don’t feed water or any liquid in an unconscious condition.
    • Check his/her breathing, if no breathing immediately start Artificial breathing.
    • Check carotids, no carotids then immediately start external chest compression.
    • No breathing and no carotids continue with ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION AND EXTERNAL CHEST COMPRESSION [CPR]
    Check for other injuries on his/her body.

    Chest Injury:

    in chest injury patient’s ribs may get fractured
    • If there are multiple fracture ribs then it is a serious and critical condition.
    • If there is any piercing injury to lungs or heart then it a serious and critical condition.
    • Many times patient becomes conscious but breathless and complaining chest pain is also.
    • most of the times a serious condition and hence one should not ignore it.
    First-Aid :

    Immediately support his chest. And keep him in a comfortable position. If possible start oxygen and shift to hospital earliest.

    Abdomen Injury:

    If the injury is penetrating then there might be severe bleeding or sometimes the organs like stomach, intestines, liver or spleen etc comes out of the body. Patient may die or critical due to severe loss of blood [circulatory shock].

    First-Aid :

    Support and apply pressure bandage to stop bleeding. Rush to the hospital. In blunt injury many times patient becomes conscious with pain in abdomen, vomiting which contained food particles or only blood or mixed, tenderness and swelling on abdomen. Patient may land into shock condition.

    First-Aid :

    DON’T feed any thing [water or any liquid]. Keep the patient in a supine position. If possible start oxygen. Rush to the hospital.

    Other Minor Injuries:

    • CUT: Contaminated  wounds should be washed with clear water and put a bandage  or at least cover it.  In severe bleeding  apply direct pressure bandage on the bleeding point, if there is a doubt of foreign body inside the wound then don’t apply direct pressure on foreign body,  Rush to the hospital..
    • SOFT TISSUE: Apply ice and then crep bandage, if needed.
    • SPRAIN: Apply ice then crep bandage  and advise for immobilization & no weight bearing..
    • LACERATED WOUND: Wash the wound because usually lacerated injuries are contaminated with dust particles. Clean the wound with antiseptic solution like Betadine, cover the wound with a sterile pad. Shift to the hospital.
    • EYE INJURY: Wash the eye with clear water and cover it with a sterile eye pad or clean cloth. Rush to the eye specialist.
    • NOSE INJURY: Not to worry  unless there is foreign body in the nose or breathing problem.
    • MOUTH INJURY: Take water  in mouth hold it for some time and spit it out. Rush  to the hospital.
